Dell is shaking up its Windows laptops with some of the biggest changes ever

Dell is shaking things up with one of its biggest-ever changes. The popular PC maker is on a mission to simplify its range of portable PCs with the company confirming that, from now on, there will be three models to choose from. In a move that appears to have taken a pinch of inspiration from Apple, the new machines will include an entry-level product range called Dell, then there’s a more premium lineup called Dell Pro, and yes, you’ve guessed it, top-end models will be called Dell Pro Max. That means the end of its popular XPS, Inspiron and Latitude ranges.

All of these PCs get powerful Intel processors which will speed up tasks by over 35 percent, sleek designs and impressive screens but each is built for a different type of user.

Dell says its standard ‘Dell’ machine has been created for students and those who don’t need bucket-loads of power. Then there’s the ‘Dell Pro’, which, as the name suggests, is made for professional users who need some extra grunt.

Finally, there’s that ‘Dell Pro Max’, which has been designed to offer ‘maximum performance’.

All of the laptops get longer battery life (over 20 hours), tough new designs and pin-sharp displays, along with plenty of ports to plug in those all-important accessories.

Although Dell has definitely made it easier to determine which model might be best for you, things do get a little more complicated when you start exploring the full lineup.

You can buy Base, Plus, and Premium models in each category, with each offering a bump in performance, display technology, and specs. So, if you want the very top of range, you’ll be looking to buy the Dell Pro Max Premium.

There are also different screen sizes, including 13, 14 and 16-inch panels.

If you opt for the Dell Pro and Pro Max versions, you also get a new Modular USB-C Port which is far easier to repair. That means if things go wrong you won’t face a massive bill or long wait to get it fixed.

Other features on these models include in-built 5G, speedy Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and they are powered by Microsoft’s Copilot+ technology.

Later this year, Dell will also add more processor options including brains from AMD and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform.

Along with those laptops, Dell has also announced the launch of its new desktop machines which also get the same ‘Dell’, ‘Dell Pro’ and ‘Dell Pro Max’ names. All will be available soon.

“Dell reveals a new AI PC portfolio built for personal and professional computing,” the firm said.

“From sleek laptops to powerful workstations and versatile desktops, Dell’s new AI PC lineup lets you collaborate, create and drive productivity no matter the location. And now it’s easier than ever to find the right device with our new AI PCs unified under the Dell brand.”
