Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood believes the club shouldn’t sign a centre-back in January unless the new arrival is better than Micky van de Ven or Cristian Romero.
Spurs have been linked with making a new defensive addition amid Van de Ven and Romero’s injury woes.
But Sherwood has questioned who would miss out on a starting spot once Ange Postecoglou signs a new option.
“Tottenham have an issue in the January transfer window,” he told Lucky Block.
“If they make a defensive signing, by the end of the window you will likely have Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero back to full fitness, what do you do then with the player you’ve brought in?
“Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies will also be back in the squad as back up options, so unless they can find someone better than the two starting options, then it doesn’t make sense to me.
“You can’t collect players just because you are having an injury crisis in that moment!”
